The national code prohibits the use of vent free fireplaces in any bedroom or bathroom. Vent free fireplaces are also restricted in New York City, California, Canada, and above 4,500 ft elevations. Check local codes for installation guidelines for vent free fireplaces. Please check www.ventfree.org for more information.

All Spark Fires products are approved for use throughout North America with the following exceptions:

California
The state of California as a general rule, does not allow vent free fireplaces. Our direct vent models are all approved for California.

New York City
NYC does not allow any vent free fireplaces. Please consider our Direct Vent Fire Ribbon fireplace for use in NYC.

Colorado
Vent free products can not be used above 4500 ft.

Massachusetts:
All Spark Fires fireplaces are approved in Massachusetts.

The vent free Fire Ribbon is a truly stunning fireplace with broad appeal. This modern fireplace offers the clean, simple look of a straight "ribbon" of fire.

The design is unique in an industry that doesn't’t place a lot of emphasis on modern design. Not only is the rectangular shape unique - we have removed the glass doors found on most fireplaces. This unit offers tremendous installation flexibility as well since no chimney or flue is needed. Having satisfied a stringent national safety standard, this fireplace finds its way into the living rooms, dining rooms, and great rooms of many homes. Installations can be on exterior walls, interior walls or in a corner.

Vent free fireplaces are designed to produce a very hot flame that results in nearly complete fuel combustion, almost eliminating any carbon monoxide or soot. This vent free fireplace is equipped with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS), which is a safety device that monitors air quality in the room.

Vent free fireplaces have been approved for use in the U.S. since the 1960’s. Heating at 34,000 BTUs while reaching efficiencies over 90%, this fireplace is a great balance of form and function.

Both Natural Gas and Propane 3' Fire Ribbons come standard with an on/off remote control and a standard Satin Black fire box interior. Optional Accessories not included are Stainless steel Interior Firebox.
